Nothing... yet

So it is almost time to leave work and I have not written anything yet. This is kind of the way I thought this might go. Not much to say right now. Plus I want to get home. I might write more tonight, but I might also go out with a buddy from high school that just got divorced. I have no idea yet.

Comics et al.

Well, new comic day was yesterday. I am a little worried about blogging about new comics, because I am almost 100% sure I will never keep up with it, but I guess I will start and see how it goes. Oh, there will be spoilers in these reviews, so just fair warning. The first review goes to:

Teen Titans #57

I mourned the loss of Geoff Johns when he left this title. I had just loved everything he had done, and was looking forward to many more issues. Then both he and Tony Daniel made their exits mid-way through the Titans East story, and I was not happy. I really think DC should have let them finish that particular story. I kind of psyched myself out of the title for a few issues, and was never able to get into the previous story with the future titans coming back. But this new arc, with the freaking Clock King! (who let him be cool outside of BTAS) and the Terror Titans has really gotten good. The manipulation of Kid Devil last issue and the triple team on Rose this issue are really building this story to a must read climax. Tim and Cassie continue their awkward relationship this issue as well. How cool was the reveal that the new "blades" Tim gave Rose are non-lethal. I like what author Sean McKeever has done, and hope he keeps it up. And Eddy Barrows is really impressing me with his art. I was originally pretty skeptical, especially when I had been looking at Tony Daniels wonderful pencils for so long. But Eddy is really making the book his own, and draws some very high energy action scenes as well as giving characters a distinctive look. I mean look at that cover, that is great. This book is getting really good, so if you had dropped it, go out and get the new issue as well as the previous one. The Terror Titans story has really been great.

Countdown to Final Crisis #5 - Is there anyway we can make this an Elseworlds story? I love Paul Dini, and I don't know if this is editorial mandates making this so bad, or if it is too many cooks in the kitchen, but this series has been pretty bad from issue 1...er... 52 I guess. But I guess it is partly my fault I have bought every issue hoping against hope it was going to get better. I also felt that it was essential to what was going on in the DCU this past year. Turns out I was wrong on all counts. I think that DCU #0 will give me all I need to know for Final Crisis. So the best thing about this issue is that there are only 4 left. $12 more and I will be able to write this series off.

All Star Superman #10 - Can someone back a dump truck full of money up to Grant and Frank's respective houses right now to make sure this book continues publication for ever? Please. If I had dump trucks full of money, I would do this, but I don't, so if someone else could take care of this that would be great. Thanks. It is just insane how good this book is. Any review I give it can not do it justice. Just go get it.

Ok, I am going to wrap this up for now. I might be back later to finish up the reviews (and make these better), but I should really study for my final that is going on tonight.

First, and maybe last post

Ok, I have tried this blog thing with MySpace, and Facebook, and even Blogger before. I was never able to keep up with it. I would do ok for a week or so, but then lose interest. The same will probably happen here, so please if you are already eagerly anticipating the next post based on this dynamic first post do not become too attached or expect there to be a whole lot more.

I guess I will start off with my top 10 list of things I am looking forward to this year:

10. The final season of the Wire - Yes, this already happened, but it was still one of my most anticipated things of 2008. It ended well enough. Overall though, it gets moved to the 10 spot because the season, while still the best thing on television, was not quite as good as seasons 3 & 4. And they f*cked Omar.

9. The return of The Office - Funniest show on television. And Jenna Fischer is the hottest actress on television. I would have her babies (you know, once science makes that possible).

8. The return of Lost - Now that the end date has been set, they are just knocking every episode out of the park. Plus it has one of the best comicbook authors writing for them, Mr. Brian K. Vaughn (If you have not done so, go read Y The Last Man right now, not this silly blog... seriously).

7. Bike riding season - Sure it comes around every year. Sure it is nothing "special", but the highlights of my past three summers have included spending time on the trails with Gwen and just enjoying the weather.

6. Final Crisis - Grant Morrison gets to run wild with the DC Universe, all of it. This should be amazing. I just hope I understand it.

5. Batman - Grant Morrison has built a story over his run on this title that is confusing at times, but has already had a number of shocking and cool payoffs if you stick with it. Plus DC finally made one of the best artist choices of all time and got Tony *$&#ing Daniel to do the monthly art on this book. It is just an awesome book.

4. Graduating from Kent State with my MLIS - I am having a hard time believing that it was really two years ago that I started work on this degree. The time has gone by quick, but then I have been pretty busy. It will be a relief to have it done, and I am eager to see where the degree takes me career wise. (For those that don't know, MLIS is a Master's of Library and Information Science. I will now be able to apply for professional librarian jobs. Don't hate me for having such an exciting career :-)

3. DMUNY's wedding - My buddy is getting married. I thought we were just getting out of recess and worrying about who gets next in TecmoBowl the other day... damn, time flies. But this, this will be fun.

2. DMUNY's bachelor party - I am best man, so I guess that means I am in charge of this thing. I hope I can pull off something cool. And something that keeps us all out of prison.

1. The Dark Knight - Sorry Dan, I am looking forward to your wedding, but this movie is the most anticipated event of the year for me. I have been looking forward to this since the credits hit on Begins. And every single thing they have done on the way to this movies release has done nothing but amp up my anticipation. The viral marketing, the first images, the unbelievable trailer, and the kick-ass IMAX preview. R.I.P. Heath Ledger.
